In the baby name book "Beyond Jennifer & Jason," there is an entire subject about naming children after celebrities. They suggest making sure that before you name your baby after your favorite celebrity, you'd better make sure that the person has a crystal-clean reputation, or your kid could face a world of hurt as he/she gets older.
I also LOVE Paul Reubens/Pee-Wee Herman, but no WAY would I name a baby after him. I'd be more likely to consider naming my pet Pee-Wee. In fact, I named my cat Phoebe, as in Phoebe Buffay from "Friends."
I'm also a huge Layne Staley fan, the former lead singer from Alice In Chains, but the circumstances surrounding his drug-related death would prevent me from naming my child after him. I also love Scott Weiland from Stone Temple Pilots, but with his stints in and out of rehab...I don't necessarily want my child associated w/that, either.
I'd stick w/naming a pet Pee-Wee, but I wouldn't name my child after Paul Reubens. If you do have a baby boy one day and you do decide to name him after Paul Reubens, that's your choice...but just remember, that little boy will have to grow up being associated with that name...and what he did (which is no different than what any other man on the planet has done, but that's a whole other topic! ;-)

I really don't think naming a child after a celebrity, Or for that matter anyone else, especially living people is a good idea. I think you start to expect or even train your child to be like that peron. Find a good name for your baby. Use the name if you like, but try not to change you babys' personality to suit the name or the person . You'll more than likely not be able to. And the sense of failure will telegraph to the child. and probably cause a bit of personality confusion. If you can give him the name and let him have his own personality ,okay, if you have any doubts. find another name.

This is not a commercial endorsement, but I just saw the movie "The Namesake." I loved it so much, I took my children (late teens to early 20s.) You might enjoy the main character's reaction when he begins to learn more about the man he was named for.
You would be hard-pressed (no pun intended) to explain to your son why Paul Ruebens was your choice. Think about this, OK? Paul is a nice name; maybe you could just name him and leave out the reason. Please don't name your son "Pee-Wee!" Perfect for a pet, though.

Yeah, that's why in my culture, children were named after their parents or grandparents..But those were yesteryears..in today's world, a pet's name or a child's name makes no difference..What's in a name, you would say..A rose is a rose is a rose..It still smells the same..unfortunately, names have a lot of significance..Ever come across Jesus and Christ in one name..Though a vast majority adores the man who divided time as we know it, no one dares to name their children after Him..Why? So think hard before you name a child..It is a name that the child has to bear for a lifetime..

Yes, it doesn't matter to anyone but you. Sometimes people have a hard time getting used to a name, but before long the name sticks and it just seems right. My son named his dog Natty after Natural Light Beer, and at first I hated it, but now I can't imagine her having any other name!

Yes, I would. I would hope that with the name comes some of the qualities I love and admire in that other person that could be passed along to my pet or child.

I am actually named after an actress. She was not well known but my mother saw her in a movie and named me for her because she thought the actress was beautiful and liked her name. It makes a nice story. You should name your children any names that you like but be aware of possible ridicule if you give them odd names.
