You can spend a ton of time and cash (plenty of tar) seeking to seal a leak you cannot discover. in the event you handiest have one layer of shingles, it rather handiest takes a minute (figuratively speakme) to hide that small of a roof; two-three bundles of shingles (seventy five rectangular ft to your roof, three bundles to a rectangular); despite a tearoff it may not take lengthy. Just guy up and do it. Been in which you're... had no good fortune even after part a dozen makes an attempt. 35-60 greenbacks and you will not have got to fear; perhaps good enough in the event you quilt complete roof with tar however ordinarily grow to be spending extra and it is going to appear shoddy

Use 30# paper for all the reasons mentioned above. When you start laying the paper, start at the bottom edge of the roof and work toward the peak. Overlap each run of paper a MINIMUM of six inches. Starting at the bottom edge allows you to lay the paper down so that the overlap will allow any water that does get through to run off on to the next strip of paper. When you get to the peak of the roof, lay a run of paper down so that it overlaps each side of the roof just below the peak.
If you lay the paper down from peak to bottom it will catch any water that runs down and it will get under the paper. (Your roof will be much more likely to leak).
p.s. Some tar papers have white lines inked on them...it makes it easier to insure that your shingles are aligned horizontally, giving the finished roof a much more attractive appearance.

Use 30lb felt or you'll regret it.
Felt keeps your shingles from drying out prematurely.
20 yard dumpster should be gobsaplenty.
Also, DO NOT shingle over wet felt. It will buckle and make your roof look like crap.
Fore go the 3-tabs, use an architectural shingle. They are way more forgiving.

Besides all the info on dumpsters....use the 30lb. felt. I have found that it forms a better seal around each nail that you put in the shingles. The 15 lb. will tear easier when you walk on it and buckles easier also.

Use it! It is your second layer of defense against leaks. Weight is personal preference. If you are in a high wind area 30# will be more resistant to tearing before your shingles are applied. Get the best value dumpster for the money. It only costs you more if they have to empty it.

first let me say use the 30 lb paper, it will last longer and i find it easy to work with because of the weight..and if you have a 5 x 16 trailer handy
that is more than enough for the cleanup..you the money you save on the dumster for the better tar paper..LOL
good luck
