Voting allows one to have a certain amount of "voice". There are other alternatives than the two major political parties that need support. The Green Party and Libertarians both have agendas from the Lib and Con viewpoints,(respectively), that address issues in more honest and rational traditions that deserve our attentions. To not vote and to not participate in the processes to promote better and more fair government leave no room for anyone to gripe or complain. Our own political system has grown stale and corrupt and needs addressing. The smaller yet growing third parties cause the major parties to address some pertinent issues or lose votes.

It's bad to vote for a bad person. It just encourages him/her.
It's also irresponsible to vote when you don't know what you're voting for. If you haven't done your homework (more than just watching TV ads), then stay away from that race or issue, and let responsible people (or people with more time) vote.
The only exception is when they're raising taxes or giving money away. That is so immoral that you should ALWAYS vote against it.

Because it removes a bit of the air of legitimacy form the election. Really, if you hate both candidates, not voting 'in protest' is legitimate. It's not very constructive, but it's a legitimate choice. Throwing your vote to a third party is equally unconstructive, and also a legitimate 'protest' of the lack of choice provided by the two major parties.

Because everyone wants to gripe and express their opinions in places that make no difference like Y/A...it's the responsibility of every American qualified to vote to make a difference at election time and not just complain later...be an active part of shaping our nation or shut up about it.

It's not just important to vote, but be an informed voter. I don't think it's that big of a problem if people don't vote, actually, many politicians are counting on it.

It isn't a "problem" if you do not vote...Voting is a privilege we Americans enjoy and, if you have any interest in the quality of life in this country, you will vote for your choice of candidate!
