Following the Boxer Rebellion of 1898-1900, most of the European Powers "invaded" China in the sense that they all came in and took over various "spheres of influence." The Chinese Emperor was still around and technically controlled the country, but his power was vastly reduced.

You might want to check the date on that though. Just go to wikipedia and search Boxer Rebellion.

Cheers!!

China was IN FACT, INvaded by the Japanese.
The Chinese leased the Portuguese 'Macau', or as it is called today - Aomen - in 1557. The Chinese fought with the British, and signed the Treaty of Nanking (August, 1842) after losing, and gave the British the access to live and run businesses in Canton, Amoy, Ningpo, Shanghai, etc., as well as ceded Hong Kong "in perpetuity' to Her Majesty the Queen of Great Britain. There were no INvasions on the part of the British, French, Russians, etc. - just trading treaties similar to what the British did (achieved by force and diplomacy).

China was not invaded by the Europeans. European presence began with trade sometime during the 17th century. Check out the East Indian trading company.
