"After fracturing his nose three times in the 2003-2004 season, Hamilton began wearing a protective mask in the 2004 NBA Playoffs. He has continued to wear the mask, reportedly because three reconstructive surgeries have left him without nose cartilage and vulnerable to a career-ending injury. The mask has since become a symbol of strength; Hamilton says "It's like my Superman cape." "

He's worn it for quite a while now, because he has broken it multiple times and if he breaks it again it could ruin his nose basically, plus its very sensitive.

he's worn the mask everynight for like the past 4 years

he's scared of breaking it again so he wears it to prevent damage if he's hit in the face.

because if he breaks his nose again it will be major surgery...the air intake he needs to have to run around like a mad man would be compromised....

its not worth the risk to him.. i don't really blame him for thinking like that...3 times would be enough for me....
