I'm thinking about buying this 95' eclipse.
It's $4000.
It has the following : 120,000 miles.
eibach springs, hks evc-ez boost controller,3" n1 exhaust, apexi downpipe, eibach springs, dejon hard intercooler pipes with blitz bov, greddy front mount intercooler, hard intake pipe,17" oem wheels ...
It needs a new head gasket. This will be my first car. So i kind of want it to last long..
I'm not sure if it was raced or not.. sounds like it though.. I want it cause it has all this.. i wanted it to be fast.. does anyone know if this is good or bad? Buy it? Is it not going to last long? How much is a head gasket?
What you guys think..?

Head gasket blown, with everything that he has on it, odds are it was driven hard.

More than likely engine is shot.

If you enjoy working on cars, then it would be a good project car... It sounds like he's got some nice aftermarket stuff on it, If you're looking for a long lasting car. I'd keep looking.

No, No, No, NO! Not for $4k, Sure someone will buy if for $4k but save your money. It is difficult to replace the head-gasket on that (therefore $$$) car and many shops are not very knowledgeable on this car's quirks. It has definitely been raced and modded. You don't know the true extent of the modifications (what about the pcm? performance chip? vpc? fuel enrichment?) and it is probably going to be next to impossible to have the guy provide you with receipts for the installation of these expensive fancy parts (probably because they were a DIY project), so you have no way of knowing the extent of installation damage / error if any. Like I said, these cars have quirks and are expensive to fix if you break them.

Don't get me wrong, these cars are fast and are pretty, but they rarely stay running for long. Buy a car that runs.

The multi - layered steel head gasket costs about $90 and is very hard to blow out. The head should be checked for warpage and repaired. If it cannot be repaired, you can find one for around $100 on eBay. Cost to replace at a shop = $420 plus parts plus tax @ $60 / hr x 7 hrs labor (it will take more than 7 hours actual time to complete this job) should you choose to repair this car. Hopefully the lower end does not knock. Nobody ever upgrades the oil pump on these cars which is critical especially if you wanna race them.

I wouldn't trust it. Some guy making mods thinking hes a race car driver beating on the car. Don't because he probably abused the car. Id never buy a car with mods. You should buy a stock car and make your own mods...have fun with it. I wouldn't buy an eclipse either. Cookie cutter. Every kid on every other block has one of those cars. If you wanna be like every other kid then sure.

I suggest not buying cars already "pimped" because they were no doubt driven very fast and hard. You should buy a car thats been driven by a grandma, not a 16 year old male! Plus cars that have "upgrades" are worth less than those that just have stock. I suggest looking else where.

if it needs a new head gasket i would be learry of it. they could have been raceing it when the head gasket blew. as long as the heads and block aren't warped go ahead, but the only way you can tell if they are is by takeing them apart and have a machine shop check it.

its not worth 4,000. if the headgasket is blown that means someone doesn't know how to race their car. they probably over-revved the engine or were a terrible shifter. and when the head gasket is blown, most likely the block will be warped or the pistons will be damaged. dont buy it for a first car, because this definitly will be a project car.

With 120K miles its definitely a risk buying although its hooked up a lot. But you're gonna probably have to fork out another 2Gs for a new engine cuz that one aint gonna last for long.
