Can you make returns to Macy's without a receipt?

Check the price tag on the item or look for a bar coded sticker - it can be scanned by a cashier to determine the purchase price for a refund. You might get a refund or store credit depending on when you bought the item & how you paid for it.

Chances are that they won't give you cash back for it. Almost nobody does that anymore. You might get a gift card for the merchandise. Hard telling, really, as every store is unique, and you're really at the mercy of the customer service person you're speaking with.

Chalk this up to experience, and from now on, be careful with those receipts!

I've never really shopped at Macy's, but almost all the stores will let you get a receipt CARD. Which gives you back your money, but you can only use it in the store.
