I've tried everything.
The speakers came with my computer, and we hooked them to my brother's because his didn't work. We did a sysrestore, reinstalled the drivers and jacked them in, and all we get is static fizzle from one port and a loud staticy 'pop' from the other when we plug it in / unplug it.

Stupid question I know, but are you sure you are coming from the speaker out mini-jack? You might also want to take a look at control panel settings for multimedia>advanced> and check to make sure the computer is using the correct card and the speakers are set to desktop. If the speakers worked on your brothers system, the are fine. If not, they are defective.

Maybe there is a problem with the connection or something similar to that. Maybe trying them on another computer or something like that would be able to fix it. Also, maybe making sure all of the connections are tight and are in the right ports.

I hope you can get it fixed soon!

That damn fiz drives me crazy. The speakers have blown because of extreme loud volume. There is nothing you can do to fix it, as far as I'm concerned. Happened to my Bose Sounddock.
