it rotates around the sun once per year becasue of the suns gravity. It rotates once each day because of momentum of other planets and stars orbits.

Because gravity (a math formula) is so many different forces we need to know what function of gravity causes the earth to spin. That would be magnetics, or at least the primary one. the mass of the sun holds the earth in space while the rotation is like an armature in a motor not allowing the earth to fly off into space like a slingshot
