Dracula isnt an evil villian. He is anything but. If you read the book, you would know that Dracula became wampyre because in his family the devil claimed every tenth scholar as his own. Prior to that, Viovode Dracula was a war hero and served his country well. He was simply a victim of circumstance -- born at the wrong time to the wrong family. He is a perfect example of Darwin's survival of the fittest theory. Is it evil for you to eat meat to survive?

I would have to say Iago, followed closely by Professor Moriarity. Pax - C

I don't think this guy qualifies as an evil villain, but if he woke me in the middle of the night I'd wet my bed instantly: The albino monk Silas from the Da Vinci code. Strange thing - I feel really sorry for his character.

Other than the above scary guy I would say: Dr. Lector and Voldemort (sorry I couldn't resist).
Also a very underrated villain in my opinion is The Witch King of Angmar from the LOTR.(a worthy opponent)

Count Olaf, from A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket. Oh those poor Baudelaire orphans!

And also Lasher, from Anne Rice's Mayfair Witches series. He haunted and possessed the Mayfair women family leaders through centuries.

ooh i have some favourites! I like gothic horror, so obviously Dracula, and Steerpike from the Gormenghast books. Some of my favorite books are Lian Hearne's Across the Nightingale floor series, featuring an incredibly evil warlord called Iida Sadamu, and an even more disturbing captor called lord Fujikawa. If you like Tolkein/Rowling then you'll like her books too. Then of course there's the His Dark Materials, evil Lord Azrael (even has an evil name, huh?) and the worst of them all... the ultimate villain... God himself...

I think the best villain is Heathcliff from Wurthering Heights. His evil spans generations as he makes life miserable for everyone in his family, himself, and his one true love, Cathy.
