How else can we explain corrupt career people staying in Congress forever.

The democrats in the house have on average 13.2 years in office and 68% have been in for over 12 years. In the senate it is worse, 20.8 years in congress and 80% have been in over 12 years.

For the republicans the numbers are only slightly better.
house, 10.8 years average and 43% over 12 years
senate, 16.1 years average and 58% over 12 years

Since the vote has failed to rid congress of corruption we have to take action. Term limits would work but they will not vote themselves out, so we are going to have to do it for them.

Complacency is the culprit.

If it not directly affecting life as we know it, we aren't likely to step up and out to do anything.

Doing so goes against the basic self-service of human beings. Things we want have become the goal over the ideals we hold.

We must begin (once again) to care about things greater than ourselves. Especially in this nation where we have the power to do it . . . if only we seize the power.

When our founding fathers came up with this form of government they foresee average citizens going into government for a few years then returning to their lively hood, but unfortunately many politicians has decided to make a career out of being in government.....not good. I can only see term limits as the only reasonable solution to the problem we have with lifetime politicians.

We're lazy I think, look at the turn out on Presidential elections we get around 50% and on off election years that drops by about half. I read were France had 85% turn out in their recent election now I think that's sad that we can't match that.

i think its a combination of both. Of course there are those lazy slobs who would much rather prefer to watch the election process go by then actually particpate in it and then there are those who are just ignorant of the world aorund them and issues that effect them even if they dont realize it.

Why does this make me lazy or ignorant? I voted, so please explain my role in this as I did what I should have. I can't personally get rid of these people or I would have. I do agree they shouldn't be in so long and that goes for our judges also which is actually worse cause they are in for life.

Its not a question of years in office.
Its a question of criminality, evidence and justice..
The idea that someone who is in office for 20 years is somehow automatically evil and corrupted is unfair and ridiculous.
