I went horseback riding when my sister came to visit, it's up in the Hollywood hills, you ride very close to the Hollywood sign. See link below. There's lot of hiking (although you wouldn't believe it!) There are national forests nearby. Also... the beach! (some beach areas have areas that interestin to walk around like 3rd street promende in santa monica, yes it's stores, but there are lots of performing arts people in the street, and you walk outside in a pedestrian only area, or in Venice). You can rent rollerblades or bicyles and go along the beach pathway for almost 9 miles each way, there is a link for that below. The museum of tolerance is interesting. You can hike in Runyon Canyon, they have an off-leash dog policy, and sometimes there are celebrity dogs there (though you'd have to be very INTO a celebrity to know it's his/her dog!)

It depends on what you're into. There are great hiking trails in the mountains. Our beaches are nice when they're clean. We have great museums, MOCA, LACMA the Getty, just name a few. Theme parks are plentiful and varied. Or you can drive up the Sunset Strip or Hollywood Blvd and see what catches your eye. Los Angeles is an area that is beautiful and diverse.

What isn't there to do?
How about the beach?
Museums, the zoo (after you're sure the fire is under control)
Botanical gardens. Have you tried the Yellow Pages?
There are tons of choices, check out the community section of the newspaper, many are probably free.
Have fun!

Fridpl@,
Do you know how close you are to the beach? Think about it and I think you can answer your own question.
