Well, in a society where "everyone" was supposedly created free and equal is not quite true. One had to be white, male and protestant. If any of us didn't fall into these categories, we didn't get treated fairly.

As you know from studying history, it takes a loooong time for change. It comes eventually and with a price (lives, for example).

Fortunately, as we move on in our lives and in society, many people will stand up for the rights of the oppressed. No more standing by the sidelines and waiting for someone else to do the job.

well ... there was a notion of "separate but equal", but this was merely covert racism. good question ... guess i don't really know.
