My dentist and his happy helper were discussing another case where some kid had a fractured jaw while he was doing my two fillings. Really patient oriented, and he's private i.e. costs a packet.

well they're just doing their job arn't they? trying to make you feel at ease and keep on an ongoing conversation so that you feel relaxed.. just like for example when you go into a store and have a friendly chat with the person serving you while he/she puts it in the bag.. same principals really.. he's just doing his job

nicely, if somebody would not communicate then there is that awkward silence that each and every person hates. then you certainly start to hearken to the crickets and issues get extremely extremely awkward. And its plenty better than the only words being issues like "ok, this is going to wreck like h*ell." or "i visit tug your teeth out in 3...2...a million!" Then there is your scream of discomfort.

It is empowering for some of them to speak, uninterrupted. And when we don't answer, it's just another method for them to feel superior. Good luck and God Bless!
