The positive are that it is a very strong deterrent against those who may want to attack us. The negatives are, some rogue states who may want to use the bomb as an offensive weapon to achieve a desired result, like the destruction of Israel if it's Iran, or Japan and South Korea from North Korea.
Way too many countries have nuclear weapons, I don't care if their nuclear fission bombs (atomic) or nuclear fusion (hydrogen)...way too many countries have them and too many want them.

The positive side is that both "sides" had it, and still have it today,and so could accomplish mutually assured destruction. There is no negative consequence, because if Iran or North Korea launches a uranium bomb or plutonium bomb anywhere, the bomb will have a return address, and Pyongyang or Isfahan will be vaporized.
