I know i know, more help needed! I actually have a couple of probs so you dont need to explain them to me. If you give me the formula and the answer i can very well understand it, so dont waste your time typing everythingelse out. Just the formula and answer please! Thanks, i appreciate your help. ^^

1. The distance traveled by a car traveling at a constant speed is directly proportional to the time spent traveling. If the car went 910 miles in 13 hours, how far will it go in 14 hours?

2. At noon, the hot air balloon headed north at 8mph. 3 hours later, the glider headed south from the same location at 16mph. At what time will the hot air balloon be 168 miles from the glider?

3. Pressure varies inversely as volume. When the pressure is 16 pascals, the volume is 84 liters. What would the volume be if the pressure is reduced to 12 pascals?

1. This is an analogy question. 910 miles is to 13 hours as X miles is to 14 hours. X is an unknown number. To solve it, (910 x 14) / 13 = 980 miles.
3. This is another analogy question. 16 pascals is to 84 litres as 12 pascals is to X litres. To solve this problem, (84 x 12) / 16 = 63. So the answer is 63 Litres.

1. (910 miles) / (13 hours) = x / 14 hours
Solve for x and you get x = 980 miles

2. (8mph)*(3h) = 24 miles
168 mi + 24 mi = 192 miles
192miles/16 mph = 12 hours
So add those 3 hours oniginally traveled and you get 15 hours.
15 hours from noon is 3:00 am.

3. 84 L * 16 Pa = x * 12 Pa
x=112 liters

Hope this helps :)

1. 910miles/13hours= 70 miles/hr

70 miles x 14hours=980 miles

Therefore the car will travel 980 miles in 14 hours.

3. 84 litres/16 pascals=5.25L/pascal

5.25L x 12 pascals = 63 litres

1) Formula:

(Distance One / Time One) = (Distance Two /Time Two)

Answer: 980 miles

2) Formula:

Total miles = (Speed of balloon* Total# of hours) + (Speed of glider * [total number of hours - 3])

Then, after you find total # of hours, add that to Noon.

Answer: 9 P.M.

3) Formula:

Pressure = K * (1/Volume) where K is a constant

So, Pressure One * Volume One = K

And Pressure Two * Volume Two = K

Gives you Pressure One * Volume One = Pressure Two * Volume Two

Answer: 112 Liters

If you still don't understand, feel free to e-mail me.

Edit@everyone else: #3 IS NOT a proportions problem. It is an inverse variation problem.

Erin got the first one. the third one you divide 84 by 16 and then multiply that times 12

I can only help on number one. I'm not going to tell you the answer but I will tell you how to solve it. You take 910/13. Then you add your answer onto 910 and that is the answer! ( Sorry I couldn't help on the other. )
