When confronted by the animal that would be their doom, they found refuge with many small bi peds that were able to stifle the felines attacks by protecting them inside a variety of containers many with cedar chips that had a hypnotic effect on these creatures. The aromatic wood chips were such a powerful new experience to these small creatures they soon became addicted to it's enchanting fragrance. The long term effects of this mysterious new intoxicating material was similar to the opium dens of the 1900 era. The most striking effect took the power of speech away from these unfortunate creatures. The lasting effect was the inability of this once proud space faring race to communicate with each other, a condition that lasts to this day. Rescue missions to retrieve the lost members were unsuccessful as the rescuers were put under the same spell that befell the original visitors.
