Regular times for bedtime AND getting up. Avoid caffiene after mid-afternoon. Exercise, but not within 3-4 hours of bedtime.

Most nights it is lay down and out, but on the restless ones, Mozart. If you play the same set of music when you go to sleep you can train yourself to go to sleep whenever you hear that music, but don't play it at work or while driving.

I let my boy friend have the remote control
and as soon as he puts one of his boring shows
on I fall right to sleep....

Don't sleep for 3 days and on the fourth, you will be out like a rock. Thats what always works for me.
