I think it is inevitable. People WILL get the power to make these choices and they WILL choose to make them. After all, how many parents refuse vaccinations for their kids because they're 'unnatural'? Pretty close to none of them.
What is going to be more interesting will be when genetic engineering progresses to the point where we can change the entire DNA of an adult. It's one thing to choose things for your children, but I think people will feel much more free to experiment on themselves. After all, almost nobody tries to tattoo a baby, but many people choose to tattoo themselves.
I think it's reasonable to believe that humanity a couple hundred years from now will be almost nothing like humanity as it is today. With the complete range of every gene available to them and limited only by their imagination and the ability of society to produce such things, who knows what fantastic creatures will take our place? It will be something to see, I assure you!

the people who choose such things are strange then! let nature take its own natural course. and plus, what if you choose the wrong thing? Like if you deicded your child should have a certain nose and when they grew older, it looked terrible on their face? Or what if they turned out ugly anyways? That would be hard to live with in any parents eyes, knowing that you made your child ugly, when he or she could of been perfectly beautiful if they had left her alone. If it is to stop diseases, then go for it.

If it's to stop serious diseases in the family (like cystic fibrosis) I'm totally for it. It'll prevent suffering for generations if the gene is removed.
For eyes, hair colour etc I think it's both stupid and unethical.

I have less problems with genetic engineering than cloning because the people that would want to clone themselves would probably be the as sholes like Donald Trump.

its morally wrong because the parents child is perfect in their own eyes and if there is something different about them, it shoudl not have any change for the feelings. there is gene therapy for trying to stop the diseases
