We want to feel loved by them and like we're special to them. I know we deserve a lot of the nagging we get but we still need the positive stuff too.

Most special thing my wife ever did was wait for
me for 5 years when we were gf and bf as my
work seperated us. When I came back to her
country she was still there and single and that is
why we got married and have been for over
20yrs, and are happy.

Be his friend. Seriously, do you actually take an interest in his hobbies? If you start to want to do other things with him he'll connect with you on a whole new level.
