HI
Dell computers are sold about like any other computer I would suppose. You can go on line to dell.com, they have cataloges, stores, etc. With Dell.com you can build a computer, PC or laptop, with anything you want added to the basic one you choose, just pick the model you like the best and they walk you through screens and ask you what you would like to add in each area of the computer - you can also just choose to stick with the basic model you started with. They also have a credit plan with Dell Financial if you apply for credit with them. If not then you can pay cash, credit card or check.
You can also buy used Dells on e-bay or in the newspapers. Hope that answered all of your questions!

Cash, credit, off the shelf or custom built, with or without extended service package, with or without software, online or in stores, they're a huge company, they want your money, they'll do whatever it takes to get your business. It's a pretty decent product, but they're a business just like Fred's Hot Dogs, how do you want it and would you like fries with that?
