First of all, that is impossible because Ryan Leaf was the second pick in '98. Peyton Manning went first. Remember that guy? Anyway, no one will know if Russell will bust until we see how Kiffin is going to use him. I think if he throws him in the first game to start, he will lose a lot of confidence and may never recover. He needs to sit on the bench for a while and learn how to be an NFL QB.

In hindsight Ryan Leaf lacked the maturity and the temperament to be successful in the NFL. He could not combine the two and compete with ferocity, so his career went up in ferocity. JaMarcus Russell by all accounts is no Prima Donna and has demonstrated a maturity beyond his years.

Nobody is like Ryan Leaf. I do think Russell is going to be the Raiders biggest draft mistake ever.

no, russell has too much size, and is too much of an athlete to be a bust. He may not be great, but he has all the tools to be a successful NFL QB. His arm strength surely is not in question, but only time will tell if he has the decision making ability of an NFL caliber QB.

No, Russel is durable, Some what fast, and has a great arm, he threw a pass that went 88 yards (in air) he was the best Quarterback in this draft.

yes he will. he was only heard of for the past year while most of the other QB's in the drafthave been heard of for a cupl years. also he was put on LSU which had 2 WR's drafted in the first round along with him so he had people to throw to. his arm is nice but it only looked good in LSU cuz they liked to throw deep and thats what he was good at. hes not fast and doesnt have the offense to give him what he needs like he had in LSU so he will be a bust. only if he was on the patriots or another good wide reciving corps team woud he do decent

I hope not. I've heard people comparing Russell to Akili Smith. We all know how his career turned out. I hope Russell does well.
