If you work overtime, you wouln't have to pay any federal taxes on it. It would help the average blue collar man, and wouldn't be a situation where the rich get richer. As a conservative, I think it's an excellent idea.

How's this: We work, we earn money, we get to keep it.

Sounds good on the face, when you say it wouldn't be a situation where the rich get richer. However, I live on Long Island, where we have cops and other civil servants who make over $100K a year in OT alone. Not the average blue collar man [Would this not apply to the average blue collar woman, BTW?(Just kidding, I know a figure of speech when I see one)], but they'd still benefit, no?

I would certainly agree to a compromise where taxes on overtime wages are taxed at no more than the capital gains rate. Making people who work overtime pay higher tax rates than Paris Hilton or the Bush twins pay on their trust fund gains is inexcusable.

Definitely sounds like an idea that needs exploration, but will probably fall short of true consideration by our govt. Seems like the words "wouldn't have to pay taxes" sends chills down the backs of our lawmakers.

As long as the employer also didn't have to pay any tax on that overtime pay, I think it would be a great idea.

I'm all for lower taxes. Wouldn't it even be better if the company who employed them didn't have to pay taxes as well? The employees who invested in 401 K's would earn more money for retirement too. I'm sure the liberals want old people to have enough mney.. well ... not really all that sure.

Actually sounds like a really good idea...

I have to point out a common observation I always see with libs and new ideas. Read Henry's answer, he immediately went to "what about salaried..." So instead of thinking about how to help some people the dem/lib turns the whole idea discussion into a negative. Amazing

You're reducing the revenue of the Federal Government. They are already running in the red. So, you're idea is to raise less revenue? That's awful. First, balance the budget. Then, cut revenue as long as you cut spending at the same time.

Most overtime is already at 1.5 times your regular pay. And you want out of the taxes too? OK sounds good to me as long as the employer gets out of their end of them as well.

that's a pretty dumb idea, actually..all the "rich" would have to do is pay themselves minimum wage, and give themselves a huge "overtime" bonus to escape taxation
