I can see the Russians backing it, in exchange for Chinese support for some 'adventurism' by the Russians. There are also a few Chinese client states that would come out in favor: I'm thinking North Korea and possibly Iran depending on the flow of oil and weapons technology.

Soon there could be more as China continues its push to influence events in South America.

Listen boys and girls, the real danger to America and the West is China and to a lesser extent, Russia. Compared to China, al-qaida is an empty threat.

It's unlikely that china even need to invade taiwan as most of taiwan's powerful are close to china nowadays.

But if china does invade taiwan then chinese mainlanders, russia, and korea will probably support China. US by law has to help out taiwan but with the Iraq, Iran, and N.Korea I doubt anything would happen.

No one. But it would be difficult to oppose in practical terms.

China is not an offensive threat to any country except those their troops can walk to.

Taiwan is across the water, but it's close enough that any attempt to defend or retake Taiwan from mainland China could be battered by mainland based missiles, artillery, and aircraft, and mounting an amphibious assault given the distance wouldn't be that hard in spite of China's limited naval power.

The other obstacle to the US reacting is China buys a lot of our debt. If they cut us off, our credit rating would drop like a rock, and that's all they'd have to do. They wouldn't have to fire a single shot to cripple us.

China probably won't invade Taiwan. They successfully got Hong Kong without invading, they probably figure they can do the same thing with Taiwan.

Everybody. The world (including the US) is scared of the Chinese.

Plus, the Chinese make our uniforms and most of our bullets. I suppose we could send a bunch of naked Marines with crossbows...
