hit f8 to go into safe mode, and then run msconfig, and disable everything not necessary to operation, and reboot

Apparently when you did this uninstall you must have removed something that Windows needs to load/boot. To repair this problem insert your Windows installation CD into your CD drive and restart your system. Windows will begin to load. When you get to the page were it asks if you want to install Windows or repair Windows, select repair. Now the Command Prompt window will open. At the prompt type chkdsk /r and then enter. This is the Repair Console. Windows will now attempt to repair your installation . This can take some time. But it should reinstall any and all files that are missing. Do not interrupt the repair sequence no matter what the %completed says. Let it run to completion. When The Repair Console has finished you must type "exit" without the quotes to exit the console.

If the repair console can't fix the problem then you will probably need to reinstall Windows.
