My x-rays just came back and it showed a broken lateral rib. How do I make the healing time faster? What do u know about broken ribs? How do they heal? How long does it usually take to heal? What should I do? My doctors gone home fore the day...

It usually takes around 4-8 weeks for most hairline fractures to heal, a little longer for compound fractures. The ribs heal the same way as other bones - your body responds by depositing proteins in the fracture, and the proteins start accumulating minerals to fill in the gaps.

There's not too much you can do to speed up healing time other than avoiding activities that aggravate the injury, and ensuring that you are getting sufficient calcium in your diet. Its pretty obvious what activities should be avoided because they will cause pain, so avoid anything that hurts.
