I've never read the book but I can tell you it's about smuggling. It's based on Moonfleet Manor which is on The Fleet on the South Dorset Coast

Violet you are correct. Moonfleet is that stretch of water behind Chesil Beach at the eastern end by Portland Harbour. Which runs west to Abbotsbury about 7 miles west of Weymouth. The Moonfleet is noted for its over wintering wading birds.

It's a mystery story about smugglers. If I recall correctly from when I read it 25 years ago, some kids find a cache of smuggled goods and get in trouble with the pirates who left it there.

Its about pirates and treasure in Portland and Chesil beach on the southwest coast in Dorset. Full of exciting reading , i love that book ! Smuggling and piracy.I won't say anymore, read it yourself and enjoy :-)
