I don't hang with bitches... but whenever I've been in the company of non-special needs straight girls, I've always got the impression they didn't mean it if they complimented me on anything

cause they always think their clothes are better...when most of the time they arent! Plus, they only say it so the person thewy said it to thinks they're nice

to hide the fact that they want to STARE at it and change a smirk into a smile, also by your reaction they can tell whether you actually think it looks good....I'm not sure about jealousy that's usually someone not saying anything when you BLATANTLY look amazing and they compliment your outfit when they don't mean it because some girls just like being bitches because of whatever insecurity they have and get comfort in knowing someone else is the laughing stock, and they probably have little word limits so constructive conversation is rare therefor BITCHING is the easier option.....perhaps

It's possible that they like the person they're complimenting, so they want to say something nice. Simple as that. It's rarely with the intentions of being rude-- I've never done that.

Maybe they're just trying to build you up though, regardless of how she feels to the person.

I try to keep things simple, personally. If I like your outfit, I'll say it. If I'm not too crazy for it, I just won't comment.

I always mean it when I compliment someone... but a lot of the time it is because:
a. You gave them a compliment so they felt it was necessary to give you one in return.
b. To be nice.
c. To break the silence/awkwardness or initiate conversation.

I always mean it when I compliment someone on their out fit. But I do know exactally what you are talking about, like in Mean Girls, and Regina is talking to that girl who is wearing her moms skirt from the '80s and Regina says that she liked it, but then turn and says she hated it. I think that girls who do that are catty, and mean. I wonder why thouse few are like that, because It really makes the rest of us look bad.

It actually depends on the person who says it. Some really do mean it. So don't generalize (because that will never work). But those who don't mean it say it because they are trying to be mean. And they're mean simply because they're insecure with themselves and the only way to raise themselves up is to put others down. Don't let them get you down.

this is just from an 'impression' you've gotten when given a compliment??? are you sure? try this. accept the next compliment with a little smile as if it is sincere. It just might be.
