There are several "high-interest", "online-only" savings accounts out there. For a good list of these, check out the link on my blog post: http://ptmoney.blogspot.com/2007/05/10-things-that-bring-success-in_10.html

I would highly recommend an ING Direct orange account. It's what I use. It pays 4.5% interest and it has no fees, ever! Plus, your money is FISD insured.

The only cons of the online-only type of account is the short wait for your money to transfer. If you need to access your savings immediately (one day), then you might not want to use an online account as they can take 2-4 days.

You can't beat the interest though. Good luck!

As far as security and interest go, I'd say either HSBC Direct (www.hsbcdirect.com) or ING Direct (ingdirect.com). Both are free and require no-minimum to earn their rates.

you could try a money market account. Shop the rate of course. They usually have like a 2k dollar minimum
