If all you want to do is expand the statement, then what you would do is:

(x + 5)^2
(x + 5)(x +5)
x^2 + 5x + 5x + 25
x^2 + 10x + 25

same as (x+5)(x+5)
shortcut:
(a+b)(a+b) = a^2 + 2ab + b^2
1) a = x, b = 5
2) (x)^2 + 2(x)(5) + (5)^2
3) x^2 + 10x + 25

it becomes
(x+5)(x+5)
then you multiply it out and its
x^2+5x+5x+25
you simplify it and it becomes
x^2+10x+25 (reads 'x' squared, plus ten 'x', plus twenty-five)

Hope that helped
