Because it is easier to focus on morality than the real issues.

It shows how sad and unintelligent the media has become. The media has the power to remove such distracting idiocy, yet they cannot remove it from themselves.
Just like when they report out on politics, as if whether some bill passed or didn't pass was simply a sports score, with either the Dems or the GOP winning, but without any other ramifications.
It's incomprehensible to me how they can screw up simple reporting so much.

My grandfather use to be president of Harvard. He heard alot about politics. And from his knowledge President Bush is very religous, and many people like to mix religon with politics (which to me is worng). Many states like North and South Carolina agree with doing this, and because of Bush's religon they voted for him, that is mostly why he won. Now many people who run for presidanty do the same thing and many people agree.. missing the main point of how the person is going to improve or change our society in the future. Also many people feel the way you rule your country is governed by your morals. As in religon. Being religous many thing like war, etc. are hardly agreed with.
Good Luck.

Probably because religion has played a significant role in both foreign and domestic policy for the last six years.
A candidate's religion, and how seriously he or she follows it, often dictates how he or she feels about issues like abortion, the environment, prayer in school, the Middle East, separation of church and state, and many more.
Maybe because a large percentage of Americans consider themselves very religious, and thus care about the beliefs of their candidates.

if the presidential race has "suddenly" become all about religion, you are being fed your view from a messed up source. just because the mainstream media tells you to focus on something, that does not make it the only issue.
