For problems like these, you can solve them easily without much effort. All you have to know is this:
(a+b)(a-b) = a^2 - b^2

so in this case, a=x and b=4:
1) (x+4)(x-4) = x^2 - 4^2
2) x^2 - 16

use bedmass times the x's to get x^2 then x by -4 and +4 but these -4x and +4x cancel each other out (4x-4x=0) then times 4 by -4 to get 16
x^2 - 16
