no, most people wouldn't want to see that but i would give my friends all the money in my wallet and i have given my best friends my debit/credit card if i was stuck at work

The expression comes - I believe - from the old days of Pawn Shops, where people would even pawn their clothes.

Hence - they would even pawn their clothes for you.
