I just found this and the global warming church seems to fit very well.... (it's in politics because it ISN'T SCIENCE!)
. Every cult can be defined as a group having all of the following five characteristics:
(1) It uses psychological coercion to recruit, indoctrinate & retain its members.
(2) It forms an elitist totalitarian society.
It is official policy to label anyone who disagrees with the practices of or questions the validity as a “Suppressive Person”. The policy also requires members to “disconnect” from them.
(3) Its founder leader is self-appointed, dogmatic,

OOPS..!! I missed the last two points!

Al Gore isn't the 'Tom Cruise', he is L. Ron Gore of the Church of Global Warming.
Global warming is indeed a scientific theory and it does exist, just not as presented by L.Ron Gore. His version is all about money.
"Oil mongers" are not a cult, they do not fit any of the parts of the definition. I don't like them, but they are not a cult.
The global warming bunch is definitely indoctrinating our children through their total control of the schools. The do not present all sides, only their own bias.
Now folks who need to know (you know who you are), repeat after me:,
HUMANS CANNOT CONTROL THE WEATHER!.

Global warming isn't a cult. It's a scientific theory, and it has gained wide acceptance in the scientific community which means that it's based in truth. I don't know if you are understanding what a cult is, in the literal definition of the word or you are applying it to suit your own bias.

it's amazing that the real Scientists are never heard from....
Is the Earth still recovering from the “Little Ice Age”?
""A possible cause of global warming
Syun-Ichi Akasofu
International Arctic Research Center
University of Alaska Fairbanks
Abstract
There seems to be a roughly linear increase of the temperature from about 1800, or even much earlier, to
the present. This warming trend is likely to be a natural change; a rapid increase of CO2 began in about
1940. This trend should be subtracted from the temperature data during the last 100 years. Thus, there is a
possibility that only a fraction of the present warming trend may be attributed to the greenhouse effect
resulting from human activities. This conclusion is contrary to the IPCC (2007) Report, which states that
“most” of the present warming is due to the greenhouse effect. One possible cause of the linear increase
may be that the Earth is still recovering from the Little Ice Age. It is urgent that natural changes be
correctly identified and removed accurately from the presently on-going changes in order to find the
contribution of the greenhouse effect.""
Andy L do you think that the UN is telling the whole truth or has an agenda? Why would they erase the Medieval Warming period???? Maybe to make the more gullible be taken in...

The difference between science and religion is scientific theories are subject to change when new evidence comes up and is verified.
Religion works the opposite way. No matter how much evidence seems to disprove it, only evidence that fits the "theory" is accepted, and that's not because it's verified or rigorously tested, but only because it fits the theory.
The anti-global warming non-sense is even sadder than the anti-evolution stuff. At least creationists are trying to hold onto a sincere belief. The anti-global warming idea is the cynical creation of PR firms and talk radio shills hired by those who profit from polluting.

I will not repeat after you ... If you think that Human's cannot control the weather; perhaps you're right in one sense.
We cannot control it for the better efficiently, we are controlling it in the sense that we are running it into the ground.
If you actually look at the facts, you will see that since the industrial revolution, the temperatures have risen, carbon dioxide levels have soared, ocean levels have risen and we are experiencing bizzare weather patterns which can only keep going.
I would like to ask why you have these opinions of global warming being a cult, because from where I stand here, after looking at numerous studies, it seems that the climate change sceptics form just as much, if not more of a cult.
You will find that climate change sceptics' views are rammed down your throat just as much in more of a subtle way from governments and, particularily, by large corporations intent on nothing but money making.
If you don't believe in the evidence which is so blatently clear, let me ask you this ....
If you had the choice of following one of these ideals if you can't make up your mind between which one is true, would you choose A or B?
A - to continue living the way that the world is going, by producing far too much greenhouse gasses, not caring for water preservation, not believing that climate may change, using too much electricity, driving our cars too much and so on and so forth ... You'll pay more on your electricity and petrol bills, you may believe that what you're doing is right, but it's because you're too selfish to look outside the narrow corridor you're living in.
B - Take the benefit of the doubt. Look at the facts, if you don't believe them, it doesn't hurt to be a little more careful anyway, by living cleaner, there is no such risk and you'll save your money!
It is such attitudes as yours which keep conservative gas guzzling governments in power.
Climate change is not a cult, the much bigger cult lies within those who are entrenched in their culture of waste and destruction on the world.

Apparently the CIA has been successful with their disinformation agenda and have created more confusion because the Bush Crime Family does not want to accept the fact that they are part of killing this planet.
They are a "big part" of the reason because they would much rather playing war with "terrorists" in Iraq rather than dealing with this country's other problems such as the budget deficit, global warming by researching alternative sources of energy. Then they would not be able to charge us $4.00 a gallon for gasoline.
I think that NASCAR should have a separate class for vehicles that use alternative energy. You would see how quick they would develop it. But the Fortune 100 corporations would not like it.
There is no one thing that contributes to global warming but mis-informing the public is not right. They should stop doing it.

hahahaha You are kidding with this question right? I mean you really are not that ignorant that you would suggest something so stupid right? Would you feel this way if George Bush or Dick Cheney were behind global warming. (In a very real way they are, but that is not how I meant it.) If it were one of them you would be touting the dangers of car exhaust right now. Telling us all to conserve and make the world a better place. So let's not pretend this is about global warming. It is about the way you detest the democratic party and Al Gore. Otherwise your question would be posted in religion, not politics. Global warming a cult??? HA!

Give me a f*cking break.....
There is scientific proof that the earth's temperature is rising. What is still being debated is how much of that rise is being caused by human activity. Whether we are capable of stopping this rise in temperature by changing our habits, wouldn't the result of changing our habits still be a positive...? Even if we can't reverse the trend, at least we could clean up our air and make this planet better for our children. Who are these goddamn freaks who want to debate the something needs to be done about our environment....???

I totally agree with Andy L. Get your heads out of the sand and get over being the "give me, I deserve" generation. Start thinking about what you're doing to your children and their children.
You may not like Al Gore but his message is right on.

If you want to know some of the science behind it, and how the debate fits into the picture, check this out.
There are things we can do to reduce our contribution to global warming. There are other components to global warming over which we have no control.

That is why there is so much controversy.
