ps: if you still compare AMD ghz vs. Intel ghz. you really can't. you have to do benchmark to compare. Since both company does different things to there cpu.(2xcpu, and 4xcpu.)

Intel Core2Duo is absolutely the top processor. So no matter what brand of PC you buy, try to get the Intel.

I bought an XPS 410 this past Christmas.

I got the 2.1 GHz Core2Duo. The machine has been excellent thus far. No complaints.

I would recommend that you get something better than the 1.86GHz if you can afford it. I'm not a gamer, but if games are on your menu a minimum of 2.4 GHz would be nice for now and for the forseeable future.

I have noticed that since Christmas time the price of the 2.6 GHz Core2Duo has dropped from about $500 to the $350 range for just the processor. So further down the road upgrading will get more and more reasonable.

In respect to the Dell systems, if you are considering a monitor in the package from them, I'd recommend you do some research on monitors. Most of the Dell monitors they ship in the "packages" have a Contrast Ratio of 500:1. What you really want is a Contrast Ratio of 700:1 or greater. The higher the first number the higher the price. For example a 1000:1 will run you some serious bucks but if you shop wisely on the net, you can find some great deals on really good monitors. For example, I got my 19" Hanns-G (700:1) last summer for a bottom line cost of $145. It had a $75 rebate attached so I jumped on it. The tech specs on the monitor were great, and it came with a 3 year warranty. So if you shop wisely you can get some really good monitors without spending a lot of $$$$.

Here's some monitor info that is a good place to learn about them. Read the two "For Dummies" article on the page.

I shop a lot on the following sites:

Good luck and I hope this helps.

core 2 duo, newer and better. i have a 410 with a 2.40 core 2 duo and it rocks. even when playing like battlefield 2 while listening to music on itunes, it barely exceeds 10% cpu usage.
