I can't stand chick flicks either, they are usually either really boring or soppy. I have to say I don't like pretty woman either. How can women like a story about a prostitute and a rich man who goes out with prostitutes... and Julia Roberts does my head in with that stupid looking smile of hers... ok enough of my rant :)

I usually avoid poll/opinionated type questions, but I'll answer this one because it piqued my interest. I, personally, would not pick a chick flick over a drama or a suspense movie. I'm not much into romantic comedies. Gag me with a spoon! I guess I like movies that make one think, provoke some deep emotion, or that leave a person on the edge of their seat, complete with a surprise ending.
Maybe not being too interested in chick flicks is due to the fact that I'm queer, though I'm not a bull dyke or anything. I'm really quite feminine. Perhaps I'd be more into chick flicks if some were targeted at the lesbian population. :) I don't care about seeing a man and a woman falling in love and living happily ever after. Yuck! (No offense heteros!)

You're obviously not the only woman that hates chick flicks, I couldn't believe how many women hates them. I'm a great fan of chick flicks and even a greater fan of the men who loves chick flicks! But I have to add, I think epics and war movies usually contain better love stories, so whenever I'm in a romantic mood, I'd watch a good war movie. "The English Patient" is one of my all time favourites! And who would ever hate "Braveheart"!! These are according to me more chick than "The sweetest thing"! (Now that was an embarrassing movie!)

Dissagree myself actualy but only for the movies that where said to be "chick flicks" but aren't the ones you gave samples of are poor repesentations. Go see Juno or the thousands of other movies with thoughtfull female leads or something The Beatutifl sunshine of a Spotless Mind. Yeah movies like these an Grease suck because they send a negative message to women but there are a lot more good ones I think you have missed.

Totally got the wrong end of the stick until I read some answers. I thought a chick flick was one of those that the dirty mac brigade watch.
So now I have been educated, I love them.

no, I like some of them, but I hate Failure to Launch, How to lose a guy in 10 days, & stuff like that. I did like Holiday, & it is probably a chick flick. Jude Law is yummy though.
