i have a relatively old computer at home, and have a few parts, i think are compatable with the mother board, only thing is i dont want to crack it open(not like modern cases press a button side comes off, screws galore!!) to check the name of the motherboard is there any software that can scan it, and i just research or something along that line

Try the Everest program. Or look in your "System" and Device Manager tabs on your computer and that will give you some brief info on your hardware.

These programs will give you report of your computer's internal devices.

You can also go to your computer's manufacturer's website and check in the support area for your exact model number for support, specifications, etc.......
