I just need some opinions because I can't afford to get an autopsy from the vet. I just found him 20 minutes ago. Nothing was broken as far as I could tell and there were no bite marks. He had fresh bright blood trickling from his nose. He was still a little bit limber so I'm guessing he died maybe 3 to 4 hours ago. I don't think he was poisoned or that it was his food because he hsan't been acting funny and I know he wasn't hit by a car because he was inside the fence. If you can think of anyhting it might be let me know. He was only 3.

Here are the possibilities I can think of:

+ hit by a car (any possibility he got outside of the fence and then come back in, or someone dropped him back over the fence?)
+rat poison (rat poison contains warfarin which causes death by internal bleeding)
+ any other types of poison (including certain plants - lilies are poisonous)
+ heart failure (the most common cause of sudden death in young animals although the blood from the nose is not indicative of this)

Had he shown any unusual symptoms lately - anything at all? Any funny breathing noises, changes in eating patterns, lost any weight recently? On rare occasions tumours can go unnoticed until too late - I was just thinking of he possibility of tumours in the lung or nasal passage as a cause of the nasal bleeding.

I am sorry for your loss,

Chalice

It sounds like your cat may have been hit by a car and suffered internal injuries to his spine or CNS. Cats are natural climbers, and if there is a tree or anything like that in your yard, he could have climbed up it and gotten out on the road. The other thought I had is that this is due to some sort of a fall, or perhaps poisoning of some sort. It would take a vet to really get an idea why, however. I'm sorry for your loss- finding an animal you love dead is always a terrible thing for anyone to go through. I know- I have been there more than once myself.

Is his neck or spine broken? It could have been snapped instantly by some dog.

Blood coming from the nose sounds like an internal injury. It's doubtful it was his heart, but it's not so easy to pinpoint without a necropsy from a vet.

Sorry it happened, but at least you found him so you can have closure. If you want to, go to a craft store, such as Michaels, and there they have little plaster kits. You might want to make a pawprint of his as a keepsake. You might also want to take a little snip of fur and put it in an envelope. Those are little things that can help and something you can keep forever.

i understand what you're dealing with. Our relatives cat died 6 months in the past elderly 18 one million/2. it could have been her nineteenth birthday 2 days in the past. She had kidney problems not long earlier she died and issues weren't finding super so I knew the tip became close to besides the undeniable fact that it became nonetheless complicated to handle. It became much less complicated for me nevertheless as she became living at my mum's and that i stay miles far flung from her so I wasn't there on the time which helped. i think of had I been on the vet's along with her while she became placed down and been interior the living house afterwards seeing all her issues like her toys and blankets it could have been tougher. I have been given her ashes some weeks in the past once I visited my mum and that they at the instant are on my bookcase. I take convenience interior the undeniable fact that she became pampered and correctly enjoyed for just about 19 years and that she became a much better than satisfied cat. the tip became incredibly non violent (best to a super form of cats' deaths including being hit by making use of a automobile as an occasion - which became continuously a extensive concern for me) and he or she is not in any discomfort or discomfort. I nonetheless omit her yet i'm grateful she became our puppy and that we've been waiting to furnish her any such effective life. possibly you could take convenience understanding you gave your cat a effective life and cared for him top until the tip.

Awww...I'm so sorry he died.

It kind of sounds like an internal injury or poisoning; blood coming from the nose or mouth is a symptom of both. It's possible that he got into some poisonous plant, or as stated, he could have eaten a poisoned rodent or bird.

Sounds like a poison to me. If a cat eats a mouse that has just eaten Decon, it can poison the cat as well.

Are you sure he hasn't been hit by a car? Cats who have been knocked over tend to go into shock hide and usually die. Check his claws if there scraggy this indicates a car has knocked him over. I know this as both my cats were knocked over (thankfully one survived, the other unfortunately didn't) and both ran off to hide. One hid in some bushes in our garden the other hid in our cupboard.
