Why would anyone vote for a Political Party ?

I vote for the candiate's running.

Just because a person is in a certain politicial party, doesn't mean they should get anyones vote.

If the Democrats nominated Mel Rynolds, the ex Democrat Congressmen from Illonois who was convicted of raping a child,

Would you vote for him as President ???

I know that was an extreme case, but i was making a point.

We all need to understand, that in the primaries, voter turnout is low.

So the extreme members of the parties, usually control who gets nominated.

Average turnout in politicial primaries is around 20%.

Average turnout in the general election is around 50%.

America would be much better served, if the 50% voted in the primaries and let the 20% vote in the general election.

Well I vote pretty much Democratic on all of my ballots. I am 30 and I have voted about half a dozen times or so (I try to vote on every poll). I have punched some republicans (wish I can literally punch others) I never voted for George W Bush. I have voted Clinton, Gore, Kerry and soon be Clinton (Obama has some steam but I doubt it). I only vote democrats because it is either them or the Republicans. They are better (the Dems) but they are not all that either.

I pick the lesser of the two evils. All it took was GWB for me to never EVER vote another Republican in any office ever. I just like how they praise Ronald Regan who I believe besides anyone with the last name Bush was the worst president ever. The 80's was a terrible decade. Who ever sides with GWB can beleive I am voting for their opponent. I don't care if it is Sponge Bob Square Pants he will get my vote.

If they either offer someone I like, or my state looks as though it will go red this time (unlikely), then I'll vote for the Dem.

There's very little chance I'd vote for the Republican.

He'd have to be a VERY unusual republican. Most likely I'd vote Green if I hate the Dem (Hilary, for instance, or some other republican in democratic clothing), and it looks like my state won't go for the Republican.

I'm already there. As a moderate Independent, I cannot vote for the current crop of Republicans. The Republicans have lost my vote, maybe permanently, and they used to receive my vote in the past more often than not.

Not going to happen. Independant in "08 Barack Obama breaking from the party. Al Gore or Fred Thompson coming in
also off any party. Sick of party no committment to me the voter!
Atleast this campaign season. Formerly, card carrying Republican.

Someone who doesn't hate republicans. Someone who can see the good in both partys. That will never happen with a democrat. I've never heard one democrat say anything good about a repbulican, but the visa versa is true.

I am a registered Republican who despises the Dems but will vote for anybody who will help end the mismanagement by the fundie fanatics who are ruling America, the country I love to my core. If I have to hold my nose and vote Dem in order to get rid of the Corrupticans then I will have to do it.

A candidate who has views on specific topics that match mine. I have about a dozen bell-weather topics that guide my selection among the candidates.

But I doubt that it will ever happen, since the Democrats have been subverted by the most whacko, liberal, self-serving, far-left radical fringe groups in existence. Not a single Democratic candidate today has views that are anywhere even close to in synch with mine, so I will continue to have to vote Republican or Libertarian.
