My girlfriend just got a chinchilla, male, and very skiddish, although the petstore says he will calm down over time. Any good name suggestions?

You should never listen to the petstore they are always wrong.
Chinchilla's are always very active. While your little guy will be able to be calmed down with Cheerios and taught to sit on your shoulder trust me he will not ever not be a little jumper who runs out of control all the time.
They sleep days and play nights.
They need a cage with a minimum of 24Wx24Lx36H.
They need stimulation and attention from you.
They are social animals and need to be loved.
They have very strict dietary needs and should never be fed Charlie Chinchilla which is what most petstores recommend. The food I recommend is Mazuri and no I don't work for the company. I rescue Chins from abusive home/families who learn they can't take care of them.
A chin is a big responsibility and I sure hope your girlfriend is aware of just how big that chore is going to be.
