I am breastfeeding my son, he is 7 months. I still have to lose 15 pounds to get back to my pre pregnancy weight. I am not exercising at all. I am not eating to bad, but I'm not eating extremely healthy like I was when I was pregnant. I am eating the same amount that I was before I was pregnant. Anyone lose the weight after they stopped breastfeeding. I think that my body is holding the extra weight because I a m nursing my sun.

you hold a few extra lbs when you are breastfeeding, its a response to the days when we would suffer from seasonal famines, it insures you will be able to still feed your baby even if you can get enough to eat. When you are done bf'ing you will lose it.

I'm still breastfeeding my son at 16 months of age, and I have lost all of my pregnancy weight and more. I do not eat very healthy, and my exercise routine consists of occupying my 3 yr old daughter and my son 24 hours a day.

Some people lose the weight faster then others when breastfeeding. Most people will tell you that they GAINED weight after weaning, rather than losing it. It took your body 9 months to put on the weight; you should really give your body at least 9 months to safely lose it while breastfeeding before worrying too much.

There are some safe ways to diet while breastfeeding, though, if you are interested. I put some links below. Just be careful and follow the suggestions.

Hi Lolly-

I have heard from one friend that this happened to her-she didn't lose lots of weight until breastfeeding ended.

For myself...it's hard to say. I lost some weight while BFing, but I was also FAMISHED the first, oh 8 months or so that I did it. At 10 months, I stopped exclusively BF-ing and now at 13 months, I only do it once a day, at bedtime. So, maybe it's too soon to see if I drop additional pounds. Like you, my diet could use some help and with a baby and a toddler and a full time job, exercise has definitely taken a back seat.

Good luck to you!

I have breastfed 4 kids. I never was able to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight while I was breastfeeding. As long as you're taking your prenatal vitamins and no other dietary supplements, you can follow a diet plan that your doctor can give you even while you are breastfeeding.

Don't be discouraged though if it takes a while to lose the extra weight. And DON'T stop breastfeeding in order to lose the weight, your baby will thank you for it later! Breastfeed as long as you are able because it really is beter for your son!

Good luck to you! : )

I lost a good amount of weight breastfeeding, but breastmilk filled breast a portion of that 15 lbs...but if you just start exercising a little that weight will come off much faster...even taking you s o n out for a walk in his stroller for 20 or 30 minutes a day...that baby weight isn't going to magicially disappear :)

I personally, was my thinnest while breastfeeding. Got back down to 120 while nursing. She's now 2, and has been weaned for a year. 10 pounds have slowly crept back on since then, despite a healthy diet and exercise. -sigh-

Nursing actually burns more calories so stopping nursing would not make the pounds magically drop off. Walking is great exercise and babies love being outside. Also, it is just as important to eat healthy when nursing...your baby is still depending on you for all his nutrients.
