Bush says now that he will accept benchmarks as long as it does not include any withdrawal of troops based on the benchmarks. So where is their incentive??? What is the point? It's stay the course light.

There had better be penalties involved. We already have benchmarks...Bush and the Iraqis agreed to them years ago....further funding of the war should be tied to the Iraqis meeting the benchmarks...if the Iraqi parliament goes on vacation for three months without meeting some of the benchmarks, we should start withdrawing troops...I am not against giving them help, as long as they are meeting us halfway.

That is just the starting point for the negotiation on the bill. Obviously the administration will need to agree on some troop draw downs when certain benchmarks have been reached to get a compromise.

Yeah, well, you can't expect any real concessions from a man who doesn't listen to the people he's leading in a democratic republic.

This is government of the people, by the people, for the people, right?

Majority rules, unless it's what the President doesn't want to hear, in which case he'll just issue a signing statement.

They offer an excuse to pull out and place blame with the Iraqi government. "Well, we're taking our armored toys and going home, because /you/ lot failed..."
