Well i have a friend who lost her a month before she had her son. So it doesn't mean you'll be having your baby soon, but there could be slight chance that you could. I lost mine when my water broke.

You'll see a big glob of snotty looking stuff - grayish and sometimes blood-tinged. HOWEVER, you can lose your mucus plug a couple of times, as it is just cervical fluid that can regenerate. So don't get your hopes up too fast.
A better indication is bloody show - you'll wipe and there will be blood on the tissue from your capillaries in your cervix expanding. THEN, it's time to party! It's usually about 48 hours or less after bloody show.
That said - I never saw any of this in my first 2 pregnancies. In my third I didn't see until after my water had broken and in my 4th - I had lost my mucus plug about a week before and then had bloody show the DAY before.

The mucus plug blocks the opening of the cervix and prevents bacteria from getting in. Losing your mucus plug means that you are probably dilating and can be due to labor in hours, days or even a week. If it is discolored contact your physician.

Some women will lose their mucous plug or part of their mucous plug weeks before they go into labor. Losing your mucous plug does not always mean labor will begin shortly. Keep in mind that even if a woman has begun to dilate, it may be weeks before she actually goes into labor. However, if you notice blood tinged mucous before your thirty-sixth week of pregnancy, notify your doctor right away. As your body prepares for labor your cervix will begin to dilate and thin. As your cervix opens up, your mucous plug may fall out. Losing your mucous plug is a good sign that labor is on its way. Though, it could be days or even weeks after you lose your mucous plug before labor actually starts. Many women do not lose their mucous plug at one time; instead, they lose it more gradually. They may notice an increase in vaginal secretions weeks before they go into labor.

It is the plug that blocks your cervix. It comes out generally at the start of labor(but not always) . I'd go to the doctor to get checked and make sure all is well. GOOD LUCK !!! and CONGRATS!!!

You are getting close to labor, but it could be today, or two weeks from now. Don't go packing your bags just yet!

What it *means* is bacteria is now able to get in. It has very little to do with labor coming. You can even lose your plug and it can grow back.
