What is the best way to recover some of the investment into the ring. Want to avoid the pawn shop if I can. We were engaged for about a year so it has some user wear on the ring itself. Some one even suggested turning it into a pinky ring for myself lol.

Count your blessings you got it back! Anyway, get the ring cleaned, get an appraisal from an accredited jewelry, and the place a classified ad for what you consider a reasonable price and it should move!

You could turn it into some jewelry for yourself or have it made into a pendant or something for your mom. Some jewelry stores will let you use your jewelry as credit toward another purchase. Check with the store at which you purchased the ring for their policy or suggestions. I'm sure you are not the first customer who has gotten an engagement ring back. You could always try ebay or placing ads in your local papers.

See if you can use it for the next lady. Or talk to the jewelry store if you can return, not for refund, but for a reasonable amount that can be applied for the next purchase. Stores would do that.

And if you are really that tight about money, don't buy something you cannot afford next time no matter what. No point digging yourself a hole before having a family.

Sometimes a classified ad in your local paper is the best route.

Take it back to the jeweler and see if they will buy it back.

Try selling it on E-Bay.

Good luck!
