I have heard that landscaping with Cypress Mulch around the foundation of a home will keep termite's away.

It may help some, but the best thing is to treat the lumber of the house with borates. An environmentally friendly pest control expert can tell you more about this.

that's not true. Cypress mulch is not necessarily a food for termites, but it doesn't repel termites.

If termites are a concern, use decorative rock around the foundation itself and mulch away from the foundation itself.

A good barrier treatment (poison) for termites is the best course to keep them from munching on your home.

Cypress has an aromatic property that termites are not fond of, but it's still wood.. remember that termites eat the wood fiber and not bark.. and certainly not rocks.
