Penguins lay eggs, but not all species need to keep the eggs off ice. There are tropical species of penguins, not just arctic penguins like from "Happy Feet" or "The March of the Penguins".

it lays one egg at a time of pregnancy. thyen it leaves to get food while the male keeps the egg warm between it feathered feet. when the female returns the baby penguin has hatched.
