well in Ireland its the nct and they check

Tyre's
suspension
tracking
wheel aliment
seat belts
oil
wipers
emissions
lights focus and colour of bulbs
pretty much everything u can think of
in fact its nearly cheaper to put it in for test see what it fails on then get them things fixed. other wise u could pay a garage to check it and still fail on something small. i did this last week. just checked lights, oil, wipers, pumped up Tyre's. also it has to be cleaned inside and out. i passed first time though so was lucky.

Try finding an independent shop instead of the dealer or a chain store because you will be overall more pleased with the findings and the service.

Brakes, lights, tyres, bodywork, exhaust, engine emissions, general condition (including the likes of wheel bearings etc.).
