How much pork was trimmed off the bill? The personal agenda and millions that have nothing to do with Iraq just bargaining tools? The sword cuts both ways. The Hill has sat on this for as long as Bush has. Compromise on both sides. Should be a part of the headline.

Sadly, it seems America is more and more populated by people like you - i.e. people with very shallow understanding of the world around them.
You seem to be happy that Bush has suffered a political setback, and you think that's a good thing. Yet you don't have the least clue what the global ramifications are, and how that will affect our national security in the future, nor do you even seem to care about such larger issues.
As long as Bush has been dealt a set-back, that's all that matters, eh?
And if you notice the wording of the Republicans who want to set a timetable, it is all about their re-elections, and not about what is right for America.
It is deeply saddening that so many voters are so ignorant of the world.

benchmarks were talked about last year. nothing new here.the funding bill would have passed if it were not for the 25 billion dollars of fat placed there by democrats to bribe those on the fence. seems like it is more congress having to compromise. but then again, isn't it the job of our gov. to find workable situations for all americans. both of them actually did their job. that may be a historical first.

I'm sure all the American casualties from Iraq are happy to hear that. Too bad many more will be maimed or killed for no good reason before we pull out of there. I'm a Viet Nam vet and I saw this same sensless carnage 40 years ago. The blood is on the conservative Republican hands.

You know what, I am just really disgusted right now with fellow Americans. Why is it that I see so many Americans bashing this war and our decision to go to war. Did we go over to their country and wreck plains into their buildings? Did we put fear into the hearts of their children? We didn't start this war but we did decide that we were going to finish it. Sadam Hussein was torchering his people on a daily basis. Ignoring what he was doing is like knowing that your neighbor across the street is getting beat up by their husband everyday and never stepping in to try to stop it. It is just letting it go on until one day he finally just kills her. That is the attitude of a coward and I see a lot of Americans who have that attitude towards this war, cowardly. It is more than just standing up for ourselves but for others as well. I thought this was the home of the brave. Where did our braveness go? The men who fought in the civil war and World wars didn't want to go but they did because they knew that if they didn't it could some day mean that their children couldn't walk down the streets safely. They did it so that this could be the free nation that it is. Doesn't everyone deserve that? But no, we are too comfortable sitting in our seats to get up and say enough is enough and we are not going to stand back and watch people suffer anymore. We are not going to stand back and let your kill and put fear into our people or any other people in this world. As for those who don't like what I say just know that I have every right to say it. I am a military wife who has missed many holidays with my husband so he could serve this country. He missed the birth of his second baby to serve this country so he could come back and get a kick in the butt from the same people he was fighting to keep safe. Yeah, that's right, I said it, give me a thumbs down.

How is this a compromise by Bush. He stated a long time ago that the only withdrawal plan he would support would include BENCHMARKS for success and not have a time table attached. Sounds more like a Democrat compromise to me since they are still going to give full funding.

He didn't listen to the American people. He listened to the 11 unhappy republicans in congress who had a "come to Jesus" meeting with him yesterday.

have not heard that...yet. the only way the Bush Bunch will would desire to pay for their dastardly deeds is by ability of coming up a depressing cloud over the Republican occasion and inflicting historians to tell it like that's. it will make cynics out of skeptics!

You kidding me. You mean Mr. Know It All has taken some advice. I am floored to hear this. Mr. I am the boss, he was so hard headed that he wouldn't take a word of advice, even from his Daddy. Maybe he figures that this ploy will help his cronnies get re-elected.
