I have a very long commute, and need to be on the phone while I drive. My current car, while getting good milage is too loud inside to allow me to be productive while driving. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Mercedes E320 Bluetec. It is very safe, quiet and efficient (37mpg highway).
A compact hybrid will be efficient, but not safe or quiet. Hybrids are quiet on city streets, but on the freeway they are not quiet. Lexus makes big, safe, quite hybrids, but they are not particularly efficient.

In CALIF. no bi-ennial smog checks are required for HYBRIDS.

saab and volvo are very safe, quiet, great gas mileage, stylish and come with loads of options(like integrated bluetooth). a good place to start your search imo.
