Because we need the oil. And we can live without the cigars.

1) The oil is a big part of the US economy. The US purchases around 10-15% of its oil from Venezuela and cannot dispense from the supply.

2) Unilateral embargoes do not work, never have, never will. If the US did place a sweeping embargo on Venezuela, they would simply sell the oil to another buyer.

3) The Cuban embargo is impossible to lift due to the fact that there are a ton of Cuban-Americans in Florida. Because Florida is a swing state as it is, it is politically impossible to lift the sanction.

How do you know that Hugo Chavez "daily calls Bush names and bashes him"? Do you have a link to prove that? And why would we embargo Venezuela because of some so called name calling? Grow up, we are talking about the world market. There is too much money to be made in oil... and as for name calling...if the shoe fits....

the U. S. and the present government of Viet Nam did not have diploamtic relatives till 1995. That 20 3 hundred and sixty 5 days hollow (1975-1995) must be seen an embargo by ability of a few. The Vietnamese government negotiated with the U. S.. i must be unsuitable yet i don't beleave Castro desires to barter. i know our government would not. Cuba trades with something of the international and that has not appeared to assist his human beings any. How might commerce with the U. S. help????????

It takes a conserted effort to get sanctions like that aproved. Right now, both political parties are too busy trying to lose the Iraq war and blame it on eachother to pay much attention to Chavez's commie ramblings. Similarly, lifting sanction on Cuba would be a major political undertaking, and there's just no impetus to do it. After Castro dies, it might be brought up.

Embargoes are not inacted because the leader calls our leader a name. The embargo on Cuba was started when they decided to let the Soviets put nukes in our back yard. Chavez although an idiot, is not a direct threat the U.S.
